6 volt battery for JD 440IC
Hello, what battery would you recommend for a JD 440IC?
Re: 6 volt battery for JD 440IC
Personal choice, but personally over many years, and more crawlers than I can count, we have had consistently the best luck, and longest life with Deere batteries.

Hi,
I second that. I have used many different brand batteries in my old iron, and get the best performance and life from the ones from Deere. So, now I use their batteries in all the new iron as well.

Ya all use side post batteries? Heard that top post Batteries are too close to the gas tank, what amperage 6 volt battery is required on the JD 440?
Re: 6 volt battery for JD 440IC
I've had a Deka for 5 years and it's been great. Before that I made the mistake of getting an inexpensive one from Tractor Supply and it lasted a year.
The original battery hold down on my 40c was missing so I made one up with a piece of angle iron and some threaded rod. The previous owner just had a block of wood wedged between the battery and tank to hold it. Need to be a little careful taking it in and out as the clearance to the tank is very tight, but once it's in it's not going anywhere.

Group 1, top post battery to my knowledge, Deere is good, what ever get the best CCA you can find in that group size. I can't say I have ever seen, or heard of, a side post 6 volt battery. If you have, please post the info, many may be interested.

Hi,
I use top post Group 1. Dad cut an angled piece of wood paneling to slip between the top of the battery and the bottom of the gas tank back around 1966. There is a great safety measure. I use only Deere brand batteries the past few decades. They last 5-6 years. This in both my 420c and my M. I change them every 4 years, then put the old ones in my ham radio station for another 4 years. Handy, that.
