Is there a video on the 420c final drive how to install and make said adjustment's. the lavoy way is the right way no ! Thanks ! too all
Re: 420c s/n 100676
you actually put it back on the same way you took it off...once you determine if you have clearance with the brakes....i had to use a rubber mallet to bump my final back on...no slamming just bump a bit and moves a little at a time...once it back and tightened down you then adjust the brakes per the book....pressure plate must be set with the gauge before assembling clutch etc...hopefully you did that.
if i recall correctly i believe i loosened the brakes t clear drum

yes i did the pressure plate it was done with gauge tool. put it together can't move the lever steering right so i took it apart and that is what the problem is. the brake band is to tight around the brake drum and the lower right side were the dowle is on housing. thanks
Re: 420c s/n 100676

Something is odd, that is the only band I have been selling for almost 20 years, and never had a problem. Something is binding.

Re: 420c s/n 100676
I replaced both sides on my 420 couple years ago and had the same problem. With the brake bands loosened up,the bottom was catching on the bottom of the brake drum. There was a drain plug in the housing under the clutch/brake drum, removed it. Shining a light from the top adjustment openings,I used a pry bar and worked the brake band onto the drum thru the drain.Once it was on straight it was loose.Adjusted by the book and it has :worked great for the last 2 years.Hope this helps,Tim
Re: 420c s/n 100676
Yes as mentioned...the clearance tolerances are very close...so may well require several adjustments and maybe some light persuasion with a mallet like i had done.....it was mostly the vibration movement that got it in....patience!!! tho seems TideC50 was able to maneuver a bit to accomplish, and sure patience involved in that as well..
Re: 420c s/n 100676
Yes dtoots1 is correct, patience is the key.Working on these machines will teach you patience,if not they will get in your pockets in a hurry.Be patient, hang in there and you will enjoy the fruits of your labor. The tolerances on the brake band is close on new bands. thanx Tim

Re: 420c s/n 100676
I had the same issue when installing a new brake band on my 440 , had it off 3 times - would not go together the last inch or so.
Took the old brake band and compared to new and there was a slight bend in the new band .
