1010c lift cylinder leaking HELP
New to board from Alabama. I recently got a 1010c gas crawler. Engine runs well but right cylinder leaks badly out of the end closest to blade when raising. Cylinder is operating fine though. I need help identifying the cylinder and figuring out what parts I need to fix it. I have pics but not sure how to load. It’s the cylinder type with both hoses connecting on one end closest to you and has long external rod bolts the length of the cylinder. Please advise. Thanks

presume you are somewhat mechanicaly able, if you own dozer you will need to be able to work on it...
that particular type of hydraulic cylinder is the easiest to work on, lubricate the nuts on those long bolts...you do not want to break them!
first get blade solidly in position so that when removing cylinder it is free to do so...you can then carefully disassemble the cylinder by removing the four long bolts and pulling it apart....will be a bit messy...
only thing left to do is g to your local hydraulic shop and they will match the seals and cups needed....they can also look inside the cylinder to see interior condition...it is possible to have rust inside/pits etc...due to moisture condensation....seals and cups all probably be less than $100..mine were about $50 for my lift cylinders

Hi,
I looked up the specs for a 1010c, and the cylinders you have are probably aftermarket. It looks like the original
cylinders for those dozers had a hose connection on each end. My 420 had aftermarket cylinders on it, and I found
aftermarket replacement for a fair price, $87 each. They were 3 inch by 8 inch stroke, with 1.25 in rod.

I expect you have John Deere cylinders. The blades used cylinders like you describe. You should identify the model of your blade, it sounds like an older installed on it, than most on the 1010Cs. It originally had a model and serial number tag as the blades and related hydraulics were in separate parts catalogs back then. The 62 blade used on 420s, 430s, and 440s had cylinders like you describe. Below is a link to the cylinders on a 62 blade, I expect yours are similar. Contact Lavoy (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com) or call him at the number on the homepage during central time zone business hours. I am pretty sure he can fix you right up.

According to tractordata.com. These machines used model 610, 612, and 616 dozer blades.

I don't disagree that those blades may have been what JD intended to be on them, however the cylinder he describes sounds like the ones used on the 62 and some other JD blades. Over the years there have been many mixes and matches, so until the blade model is ID'd it is hard to say.

Re: 1010c lift cylinder leaking HELP
I can’t find anything on the blade anywhere. It’s a manual tilt blade and has had a lot of welding on it. It’s about 80” wide. I have noticed that some 1010s have the lift arms outside the tracks and som are inside. Mine are inside. I’m fairly mechanically inclined. I need to fix this first and then move on to the steering and undercarriage. I’ve got some issues there I think too.

Here are some pictures from fishingbucks of his cylinder.

Pictures of fishingbucks machine. He is looking to ID the blade model and cylinders to do a cylinder repair. I am thinking maybe a 63 or the cylinders are of an older blade like that.

Re: 1010c lift cylinder leaking HELP
Fishingbucks and JimB...nice pics,
those cylinders look identical to mine on my jd440...64 Blade...i actually got two sets of seals and cups for mine for just under $50 from my local hydraulics shop in Akron...tho latest gimmick is they want noe a $100 minimum order!!!! if needed i can get numbers from my blade book., if you believe it may be 64 blade...can see pics in posts or pic server if blamed thing is up...couldnt access last time i tried.
EDIT...By the way mine is a 6 way blade..cannot see yours to determine for sure...blade itself does look like mine just not configured for 6 way?

It’s a two way blade with manual tilt.
Re: 1010c lift cylinder leaking HELP
I should have kits on hand, if not, short delay to get more.
