420 hydraulic schematics

Post by pauly68 » Fri Apr 12, 2024 8:20 am

Hello All,

I'm working through a bunch of little issues on my dad's old 1955 JD 40C. It has a Gladden-Haas 6' front blade on it, model J-82. It was made in Owosso, MI and I have a print of it dated 1958. Interestingly enough, it says 420C crawler blade on the print.

So, with Lavoy's help, I have been able to figure out that this has 420C hydraulic valves, reservoir and mount on it. I have the 40 manual but don't really want to buy the 420C manual just for the hydraulics section.

Wondering if any one would be willing to copy those and send them to me for fee? Please let me know.

Thanks!

Paul

Hi,

Heh. You will, one day, find out you also need the M service manual for the 40c.

Deere wrote the SMs for service shops. They presumed each shop bought them as they went thru time. So, there are things on the M that are the same on the 40 and so not repeated in the 40 SM.

Same went for the 420 I had. I needed all three. And my 420c was Phase III and so had the differential direction reverser in it. So, I then needed the 440 SM just for that one area.

But, you are set for now, which is grand. :)

My tractor is a 40C and has that pump. When the blade was added 3 years later, they added the 420c hydraulic valve stack, controls, and reservoir.

Should be. I just rebuilt the pump but haven’t fired the tractor back up yet. Going to pull the valve stack and see if I can figure out why the fitting going back into the reservoir is leaking so badly.

He has a cam pump, you have a crank pump, two entirely different animals, no similarity other than they both pump oil. There are no service parts available for your pump unfortunately.
