Most desired older gas machine

Post by milkie62 » Wed May 01, 2024 9:48 pm

I have a super nice 450c but looking for an older gas machine for my woodlot. No crazy work with it mostly to get to softer areas to pull out firewood, push some minor brush and level out the #3 stone that I dump into muddy ruts. More of a play toy for my grandkids and me. Prefer gas since I figure it would be easier to work on. Winch would be nice also

420, 430 or 440 would be likely choices. I had a 430 with the 62 blade, wet clutch reverser and a Gearmatic 8A winch. It was handy to get around in the woods with.

The trick can be finding one with a good undercarriage.

Then pretty much any of them would work for you. I would personally start at 4 roller 40 as far as age to get the better bottom rollers and idlers. After the 40, any of the ones Jim Mentioned have more power than the 40, but doubt that is a major concern for what you are doing.
