I think I understand. You put a silicone pad heater on the oil pan to warm the oil and then you installed something like a Kat's heater to warm the coolant which then warms the block. I assume you drilled out the taped hole where the drain valve is to increase the inlet to the Kats. I guess I could just make a new plate to replace the "football shaped piece" with a taped hole. Where did you tap into the coolant for the return?

Kind of, I use a larger pad heater, 250 watts or so, then you get additional heat in the block from the warm oil. I have an immersion heater that threads into the plates I made, I just had trouble threading them, so had not made any in a while.

Hi,

There is always my North Country of New York State solution. Crawler under the shed roof, LP (or kero) jet engine heater. Fire that up under the drawbar aimed at the open back end of the belly pan. Head back to the house for another cup of coffee. Heats it all finals to radiator. Air intake too.

I got the idea from an old early tractor manual which directed one to build a fire under the machine,

Anyway, used when it snowed overnight and it was plowing time. Worked just fine on the '68 350. I don't need it now in North Carolina. First off, it doesn't get that cold and it doesn't snow that much anyway.

Helps to throw a tarp over the front end too. Helps raise temperature on everything.

Good to hear it works. I'll give it a try. Planning to butcher a steer in February and need to make sure my crawler starts!

There was a tank heater available as an option from John Deere. Electric or LP gas. It returned the heated coolant to the plate on the back of the cylinder head.



The other hole is for the temperature sending unit.
