440ICD 602 Project.

I got this 440 in June of 2022. It was tired but with some adjustments and a handful of minor repairs it has been a work horse.



The clutch had started slipping so out came the engine.



When the engine separated from the bell housing about a quart of engine oil poured out. The drain hole was plugged up with a piece of a cut off bolt and oil sludge.



The engine wasn’t using much oil (especially for a Detroit) so it appears the rear seal has a slow leak that couldn’t drain out the bottom
and built up inside the housing. Check those drain holes.

New front and rear crankshaft seals, new camshaft and balance shaft seals.
New clutch,release and pilot bearings.



New friction disk’s for the throttle control.



New oil, belts and antifreeze. Engine is reinstalled and running. Lowered the idle speed and raised the governed speed.
