Advance timing light has a dial on the back of the light. You can directly read where you are at by turning the dial til you are on zero if a automotive application, or D/C on a crawler. OR, you can set the dial at what you want, in this case 23 deg., and then turn the dist til you get to zero.
Primarily for reading total advance on a car or pickup engine, but I use it on the crawlers too.
Mine is at least 20 years old or more, I'm sure they have some fancy new doodad now that is even better.

That advance timing light sounds like something I should have. Doesn't sound too high tech. to confuse me. Thanks Lavoy!

Hi,
I use a basic timing light with the 'spark' line on the 2-cyl. So, either kind will work. Of course, you need a 12v source to power the timing light if your machine is still 6v. Some battery chargers will do, but some don't put out a pure enough DC with some timing lights and dwell meters. So, that might or might not work.
