Thanks for the information .
I have the specs on the older Deere "Track and Roller" grease and also the current "Cornhead" grease.

Both are NLGI #00 - and there are many other companie selling their own versions. The older Deere "Track and Roller" was lithium-soap base. The newer "Cornhead" grease is polyurea based. From what I've read - all #00 greases are oil based with some sort of medium to hold the oil in place and keep it from leaking. The lithium works as well as the polyurea - but the later gives more protection from oxidation.

Fina in Texas - also sells a polyurea based #00 grease and it's the same green color as the Deere Cornhead grease. Maybe that's where Deere buys it from?

Deere Cornhead greasse current specs - Primarily for use as- cornhead grease but can also be used for many
other applications requiring NLGI #00 grease. AH80490/AN102562
Rated -30F to 330F. NLGI grade 00. Meets Deere specs. JDMJ13A5, J13E6, and J25A
Green color, Polyurea thickened. Dropping point 450 degrees F.
Penetration @ 77°F (25°C), 60 strokes - 355-385 mm/10
Water washout @ 175°F, loss - 10%
AN102562 - cartridge 14 ounces pack in boxes of 30
AH80490 - 35 lb. can
TY24428 - 120 lb. keg
Canada only - CXAN102562 is a 14 ounce cartridge, CXAH80490 is a 35 lb. can

Finalube Cornhead grease # 39590 - green color, Polyurea thickened, dropping point 460F,
base-oil viscosity at 40 degrees C - 150 Temp-range 20F - 275F

A few versions of #00 from other companies:

Chevron Texaco Dura-Lith NLGI 000 is a semifluid grease formulated to meet the lubrication
requirements of underground mining machinery having enclosed gear cases where housings and
seals have lost their ability to retain conventional gear oils.

Mobilith SHC 007 is an NLGI 00 Grade / ISO VG 460 grease with a synthetic base fluid; it
has a recommended operating temperature range of -50º C to 150 º C with appropriate
relubrication intervals. Its primary uses are in grease filled industrial gear cases subject to high
temperatures, where conventional semi fluid greases will not provide acceptable lubricant life
and in non-driven heavy-duty truck trailer wheel hubs.

Castrol SHL 00 is a synthetic, semi–fluid NLGI 00 grease that combines the stay–put power of
a grease with the consistency of a gear lubricant. As a result, Castrol SHL 00 virtually eliminates
fluid leakage from wheel seals, hubs and axles, which can be a serious environmental and safety
hazard for over–the–road fleets and can increase maintenance costs. Castrol SHL 00's synthetic
base stock gives it excellent low temperature mobility and high temperature stability. NLGI 00
lubricants are recommended by The Maintenance Council in their Recommended Procedures
for Wheel End Lubrication (RP 631). Castrol SHL 00 can also be used in quarry, industrial,
mining and construction applications where a semi–fluid grease is recommended.

Hi,

Mmmmm. Applesauce. Molassas. This thread is sounding mighty tasty! ;)

Don't forget other tasty descriptions, like Butter and Jam for the thick stuff! :P That tongue there is me licking my lips, BTW!

What do we call that thin engine oil most new cars and trucks are using, the 5W stuff? Apple Juice?? That'd go well with the Applesauce in the track rollers! Mmmmm. :)

Later!

Here is more food direct from the NLGI tables. This is how the NLGI describes the different grades of grease - but it's not done with gear-oils. That because NLGI ratings apply to grease pumpability. Usually rated at 60 stroked at 25 degrees C.

NLGI grade # - pumping classification at 60 strokes - appearance - food analogy

NLGI # 000 445-475 fluid cooking oil
NLGI # 00 400-430 fluid applesauce
NLGI # 0 355-385 very soft brown mustard
NLGI # 1 310-340 soft tomato paste
NLGI # 2 265-295 moderately soft peanut butter
NLGI # 3 220-250 semi-fluid vegetable shortening
NLGI # 4 175-205 semi-hard frozen yogurt
NLGI # 5 130-160 hard smooth pate
NLGI # 6 85-115 very hard cheddar cheese spread

My green Deere dealer has NGLI 0 and NGLI 1 cornhead grease. My 350 manual calls for NGLI 0 grease in the rollers.

Deere needs something for the new machines that will stay longer I have had several machines rollers leak through the seals with less than 100 hours the first ones went If you look at the photo of my 450J that was two years ago .It was leaking on the second roller back as we ran it It had less than 50 hours on it on the new roller seals they just don't last even new that day and they don't last .Warm weather is a good test of roller seals for some reason I don't realy want to start shoveing corn head grease into a machine thats new but it turned two yesterday and the waranty was gone off it yesterday also with 2448 Hours on the meter next roller to leak gets grease!!Digitup.

You guys won't believe this but today I actually used up my last cartridge of official dirty yellow JD track and roller grease from my old 350B days--about 31 years ago.Funny weird thing, the unopened last 2 tubes were only half full--very strange--where did it go? Or did the loading mechanism malfunction 31-33 years ago? More money for Deere---Hmmm.Glad I still kept my greae button adapter also--probably hard to find and pricey.

Here's the specs from Schaeffer Oil on 0 or 00 grease. For those that never heard of Schaeffer, they have outstanding products, are known as the oil company who truly perfected soluble moly in oils without separation. Oldest oil co. in the U.S. The 0 grease would be their #274,towards the bottom--I use that but in a#2 weight---I'm going to call my Schaeffer rep today,I'm hoping I can buy less than a case of 30 tubes of the 0.

'' With a reputation for lasting two to three times longer than the competition, Schaeffer greases come in numerous formulations to meet the needs of a wide variety of applications. ''

That's very interesting the diversity of greases. We're getting a new induction furnace in our foundry sometime and I'm interested to see what sort of grease and hydraulic fluid will be specified.

Also building a slag cart for our current cupola furnace, not sure if I should even bother greasing the wheels.
