BTW, Lavoy carries the British Wellman glowplugs for the 2010 (I believe the glowplugs on EPay are made by May Co.) and he is competitive with the prices on EPay.

Is the setup simply the plunger with two fuel lines to it or is there more to it? Are the plungers still available from Deere.
I got looking around and found the Deere part # for the overpriced plunger pump is used in some military aircraft applications - along with some cross-reference #s. So, it seems there are other sources - and hopefullly cheaper? A generic # for it is K2405-1/8-6 and is made by Essex Precision Controls in North Carolina.

If you know the place to get those aftermarket starting aids like you described, let me know, I would like to try one on the 1010 I am working on right now.

I did some searching around. The original fuel primer that Deere presently sells for over $500 is made by Essex Precision - mostly for the military and for aviation. I called Essex, and they sent me to Spruce Aircraft. Spruce sells the same primer pump for $165 (same one Deere gets over $500 for). $165 is still a lot of money, but that price sure beats Deere's.

Also, Spruce Aircraft sells and compete primer installation kit for $18.

ESSEX PRIMER K2404-1/8 part # 05-01048 $165.95
Primer kit - part # PK001 $18.95

Primer pump description - This primer, originally produced by Kohler, is positively leak-proof. Its exceptional priming ability has made it popular with manufacturers of general aviation aircraft. Has 1/8" internal pipe thread inlet and outlet ports. Overall length 3-78". Wt. 2.3 oz. New manufacture. Model K2404-1/8.

Primer kit description - Everything you need to add a plunger-type primer system to your aircraft. The kit includes the plunger, a reducer "T" fitting, 1/8" barb "T" fitting, and 10 feet of 1/8" pink urethane fuel line.

You prime slowly while glow plugging, 1-4 strokes depending on ambient temp. Once the engine starts, keep glowplugging until it runs smoothly.

Hi John-

Thanks for the research on the primer pumps- this is something definitely for me to look into as used primer pumps haven't been on Epay in a while and it seems that it really helps cold starting.

I do have a question- I saw on the link you provided that they have a cheaper eletrically-actuated primer valve. Do you think that could be made to work with these crawlers?

I saw that too, and was thinking the same thing.
