Thanks for posting so many pictures. Beautiful work you're doing.

Why couldn't the head be repaired?

Thanks everyone. The head was damaged in one exhaust port from water coming in through the rotted muffler. It probably could have had a new seat put in but by the time I had all the machine work done on it, it would have been more $$$ than a new one.

I put the engine in yesterday. :D

Have a bunch of pics to upload of the rebuild and install. Hope to get that done later today.

Radiator & front nose mount installed. (not recommended to do by yourself but can be done by balancing on your legs while trying to start a bolt on each side. Also make sure air wrench is in "tighten" before thinking your homefree) :x

Lavoy,

You have mail. Have a pretty good list of things I need for the final drives.

Just an FYI, I just had my head renewed by a machine shop with exhaust seat inserts and it was only $220. You might want to hang on to that old head in case someone wants it.

My friend said I should have had the head cut down to raise compression and make more power. That was my first thought too when I took it off and saw how big the chambers were. Has anyone ever done that? What's factory compression ratio, 7 to 1?

New block heater.

Image
When I took off the right side final drive housing I found it had about 2" of water in it over the years.

Image

Left side release bearing holder bead blasted. Only had 25 years of rust on it from being left on the ground next to it.

Image

The tube is wore out. I'll replace both of them.

Image

This upper shaft was solid rust also. It cleaned up pretty well.
