Is it worth restoring?
I picked up a 1010 Diesel dozer from auction, I'm in it pretty cheap and seems to be all there, not sure if it runs or not. Is it worth putting money into it or should I part it out?

When you try to fire it up, don't use starting fluid. It will quite likely damage the engine. There should be a primer and glow plugs to assist starting. gregjo1948

1010 crawlers are sort of a neat model for a restoration standpoint in that 1010s, like the 2010s, were the "bridge" between the 2-cylinder JD crawlers that were based on ag tractors and the later JD "new generation" crawlers after them that were specifically designed for construction use. Production numbers also weren't as high as other models. Having said that, they are not necessarily highly sought after to my knowledge.
The "Johnny Popper" website had a good description about them but is showing up on my work computer as being blocked because of malware on their site- if true that would be a shame.
Availability of parts, especially undercarriage, can be an issue in restoring them so you will want to look closely on that although if not totally worn out would be fine for occasional use.

Tigerhaze---I'm thinking some JD 350 undercarriage parts can be used. gregjo1948

I can't answer if that is possible on the 1010 or not (it does for a 2010 IF you can get a late model sprocket- would assume that a 1010 has a similar issue with needing a different sprocket).gregjo1948 wrote:Tigerhaze---I'm thinking some JD 350 undercarriage parts can be used. gregjo1948
I guess I was looking at it from a restoration standpoint as was mentioned where you would try to keep parts as original as possible.
