newly obtained 1010

I'm new to this site having recently obtained a 1010 for light farm use. For it's age it does smoke a little but my main problem is that it jumps out of 1st and 2nd gear. I have never work on a crawler before and I would like some guidence where to begin to solve this problem.

First thing to do would be to get a service manual from John Deere. Most of the time when a tranny jumps out of gear its due to gear wear or bearing not to spec.
