420 final drive pix

Post by halwelch » Fri May 01, 2015 7:56 am

A couple years ago I believe that I saw a thread with detailed pictures of disassembly and reassembly of the 420 final drive. I inherited the machine from a couple of uncles who used it for logging. I've seen and helped pull it apart and put it back together numerous times but that was years ago and age seems to fog the brain. I've been through the early JD tech pages and can't for the life of me find it. Does anyone out there know if it still exists or did I just miss it? If someone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Lavoy has already told me although a couple years ago that he can help me with all the parts. Hope that bottom cover is still available. Thanks in advance!!

Complete breakdown should be in the service manual, which manual do you have?

I'm going to need to get one. My folks always sent the final drive out to a local mechanic to put the bearings in. Of course he is no longer around. I remember seeing a very good series of photos as someone did the job and it brought back a lot of what I had helped with in the past. I think I can disassemble it without a manual and then get manual and parts needed from you in one shipment. Like I say I've helped on it but this is the first time I've done it on my own. By the way you have a great site here and I've browsed it over the years.
