1 is good, 3 are better, 5? why not? An MC is coming home...

Well my Dad and I have been bitten by the yellow and green bug. With 3 crawlers sitting on the property, one 420 hopefully coming home soon, we just closed a deal on a 1952 MC, about a 4 hour drive away, which we will be retrieving in the next week or so. Sitting for 15 years, started and ran for a little then sat another 10 years..will be a project. I think he said one clutch isn't working right, will probably be more than that to tune up though.

So now, the search for a service manual. Anyone have one in a PDF they could share? I think there are 2, SM-2001 and SM-2003 for the crawler portion. I have put together a 420 manual I can trade or a few others I have gathered up for the various crawlers we have.

Any help would be appreciated. A last resort will be to buy one but I know there are scanned copies out there...they are for sale on ebay.

I bought 2 MC's at auction about a month ago! They are very addictive.

I ended up buying a manual off of Yesterday's Tractors for about $30 or so. They are extremely helpful especially since I'm new to the crawler world! Good luck!

Thanks for the comments. Picking it up tomorrow. As I am not familiar with these older machines, what tool bar are you referring to? I am guessing the the options mentioned would be the PTO shaft and belt drive? Didn't realize the tracks were rare, nice. They look to be in decent shape as well.

One other question, does this look like an original blade mount? Most I have seen have a single cylinder and the mount is between the chassis and tracks. Were there various types of mounts depending on customers use?

Tracts not rare just rare to find the pads in good shape there usually loose and flopping all around I could use them on one of mine the tool bar is there just been modified and there again it is hard to find one in good original condition they where made to pull 2 pins on either side pull out and turn around and back into it so you can put implements such as plow, disk and other implements if your interested I have some copies of a book that shows all of it you can email me your address and I will send you one for $18

Hi,

I will preface this by saying I have CRS. As in Can't Remember....Stuff...

But, I do not recall the Deere toolbar as coming to a point at the center, but rather straight across. I also recall that a pic of the Deere MC toolbar pops up during the random image at the upper left of each page of our site here. Not that it will when I want it to!

So, I took that frame on this MC to be an aftermarket blade frame missing the blade....

I believe it is a modified tool bar with the piece on the front has been welded on a tool bar that has been cut off but can't tell for sure in the picture

HI fellows,

Thank you for the help. I understand the tracks and toolbar option now. The blade does come with the machine, as well as the hydraulic cylinders, they have just been removed for ??? reason, and are off to the side of the machine. It looks like the way the toolbar and blade attach, allows the blade to be angled, using pins on either side.

I'll keep you updated and post some better pics when it arrives home.

Yeah, the outside mount blade frames tend to have those center pivots where the frame in the pic comes to a point and a hole is.

The original Deere tool bar for the MC was straight across and mounted quite a few different things. What makes it different from a blade frame is the toolbar can by unpinned where it attaches to the machine. That allows for.one to have it facing either forward or rearward. Kinda handy.

We cannot really tell if this is an aftermarket blade frame or a toolbar which has been modified into a blade frame. I guess once you get it home you will figure out if you can unpin it and so hook it up either way or not. Then we will know.

It's just about home. My Dad had an interesting trip picking it up. What are the chances of having 2 valve stems blow out on the trailer tires in the same day, 40 miles from nowhere, and the person selling the machine having a proper trailer tire/wheel to bolt right on. Stopped at my Mom and Dads place for an overnight visit and to show off the new machine to the neighbors.

We had a good look at it and it's in amazing condition, and what I think is all original, including original paint. it even has the original engine crank, which we tried to ensure the engine was not seized, it's not. All stock genny and starter, the only mods I can find are where the blade mount attaches to the machine, there is an added piece of metal used for ??? in the past, easily removable.

Anyway, more when we get home and get it off the trailer.

Oh, and we found out what MC stands for...it's Michael's Crawler
