Wire run for rear lamp JD40C
Wire run for rear lamp JD40C
Want to add a rear lamp to my 1954 JD40C 4 roller (w Holt blade and gearmatic winch). Not sure route for pulling the wire back from switch. Anyone have an example describe/show pics? thx.
wire harness for JD40
Flipping through the service manual pages a little more last night, came across this description of the wire harness. Found my answer (more or less)!

Hi,
Yep, that is pretty much it. I had thought to post the same diagram yesterday morning, hut you beat me to it.
The socket is for a trailed implement and has two prongs. You can ignore that unless you happen to have an original harness.
What they don't say is the ruby crystal is for the Dim position, so you can opt to show a red tail light for wandering down the side of the road at night. The original lamps had two bulbs, one inside the reflector for a white (Bright) work light and the other outside the reflector for the red (Dim) light.
The later lamps (like the one on my 420) were sealed beam but still have an opening where the reflector mirror is missing from inside of the glass, and ruby dye on the outside, and still a second bulb for the Dim position.
The Bright and Dim I refer to is from the ILBD power switch. You know, Ignition Lights (front only) Bright Dim (rear).
