40C rear PTO thingy

Post by RustAndDust » Sun May 31, 2015 7:28 pm

Could someone educate me on the purpose of this rear pto gear/chain "thingy"?Since whatever it was attached to is missing, how can i remove it?It looks to be pressed on.I don't see ANY allen screws or bolts on the pto shaft sprocket.

The parts manual doesn't show multiple PTO shafts for the 40C.At least mine doesn't.Thanks everyone!

Charles

Please forgive my ignorance as to the name of the part.I was merely being lighthearted when I called it a THINGY.

I have checked the hub numerous times and I do not see a set screw in the barrel.I scraped it with a wire brush and examined it with a LED light.Still,I do not see a set screw in the barrel of the coupler hub.Perhaps it is on the face underneath the chain.Guess I'll have to cut the chain off and have a look.I was trying to save the part as an original part of the machine,if possible.

I also was just fun-in about the THINGY i would not cut it there has to be something holding it on that is assessable that locks it on .if you went to the link you seen that it is a flex coupling of sorts (just not much like a "U" joint) There should be a MASTER link in the chain

I thought i would post the outcome,in case it could help someone in the future.I was able to remove the flexible coupling.A bearing puller from Harbor Freight did the trick. There were no set screws or retainers of any kind.I was surprised.I thought i was missing something, and expected to break the puller. But things went well for a change. It was rumored that this crawler had a winch at one time. Were these flexible couplings used with winches?
