Found this on a Corvette site:
Let me expand on the previous post. Water DOES cool better, but only to 212 F (boiling point). Your C5 must actually cool past 236 F, so you HAVE to use coolant.

Coolant also protects metals and lubricates the water pump.
Makes sense to me. I run an antifreeze mix, and my old pump and radiator was/is nice and clean inside. The pump I rebuilt had run with water only - rusty with corrosion buildups around the impeller. Because of where I live, antifreeze is a must.

The coolant changes both the freezing and boiling points of the mixture. However even that mixture can boil in an engine without help-the reason radiator systems are pressurized is to further raise that boiling point (conversely lower pressure is also why you can boil water on a mountaintop and it is cool enough to stick your hand in it). 212 F/ 32F are at standard pressure (approximately sea level).

I found this read at one point and has a few more specifics:

Lawn ornaments finally back where they belong. I replaced the bent angle iron on my canopy, and straightened the whole unit so that it looks good in my eyes.

Machine is running and working well. Some paint and a few tweaks are still needed, but now I can get on with my Fall chores.
Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts as I worked through this project. Paul

Hi: Just ran across this posting which seems to have regained the photo links from Photobucket. Has this occurred site wide? I sure hope so, a lot of people put a lot of energy into sharing their work and pictures which I have found to be invaluable as I work through my machine's upgrades. Paul

Hi,

I don't know as I went and loaded my pics onto the new photo host site and then deleted everything off PhotoBucket rather than pay them anything. It might be that was a trend PB-wide and they gave up trying to get folks to pay?

Wonder if they had so much backlash that they reinstated it? Need to find some other pic posts and see if they work.

I found pics back to 2012 that showed up. Net search doesn't reveal anything other than a lot of pissed off people over the 3rd party hosting debacle.

Hi,

I just went back in time in the Show and Tell forum and all the PB images I looked at are now showing up. After a dozen or so checks going back several years I figure PB has changed their mind.

Went to my Photobucket site, and it appears that they retained a "free" service for those of us who use it minimally; they have tiered pricing for other user needs. Still couldn't link my old avatar, however. Not sure why. Paul
