Hello all
I was walking my 440 Icd uphill when suddenly stopped moving . When I release the clutch pedal there is a noise emanating from the area of the clutch and reverser. The reverser does not seem to engage in forward or reverse. Does it sound like reverser is the issue? Can I rebuild it?
A fellow near here tells me that it might be a splined gear that connects the main clutch to the reverser might be stropped
Maybe reverser issue

Hi,
Somehow I missed this one when it was first posted.
The power goes thru the main clutch, but that sounds ok since you hear the reverser internals spinning.
There are two clutch packs inside the reverser. One for forward, one for reverse. It is unusual for both to go out at the same time.
The sound from the reverser housing is different in forward than reverse. If you hear a difference with the lever in forward vs reverse, the reverser clutches are likely still working.
Next comes a coupler between the reverser output shaft and the transmission input shaft. This is what I think let go on you.
It is always possible that something let go inside the trans, but the coupler is the most likely suspect at this point.
Access to this requires dismantling the machine from the front back to the trans.
