MC dozer blade part identification help

I went to the fellows house that had bought our 420C from us 24 years ago and asked him if he would sell the remaining parts he had for the crawlers, he told me anything in the yard i wanted I could have. So I left with a full car load of old parts for free. Among them was this piece, which sports green and yellow paint so I assumed it was off something JD.
After a lot of searching I have finally located where the part is used, however I have no clue what its purpose actually is. The only assumption I had was that it either stopped the blade from rising any higher (which I am not sure why you would want) or it was an early attempt at some sort of "Down Pressure" Does anyone know what the function of this piece on the Lift Cylinder is? I have only seen it on these 2 MC machines pictured here.

If it is by some chance a rare piece that someone needs to finish there machine I would be more then happy to work something out.

Perhaps it's adjusted to maintain a set depth of material being graded. gregjo1948

Those cylinders are/were used not only on blade but remotely on pull behind attachments of different sorts ie. harrows ect. where limiting stroke of cylinder is necessary.

Just below were the cylinder rod attaches to the lift on the blade there it a a piece of flat bar that when the blade is up you flip that over and it will hold the blade up so the cylinder can be removed and used on the tow behind attachments that require hydraulic lift.
I believe these cylinders with adjustable stroke were used on the wheeled tractors also.

Hi,

In the first pic, short hoses were used so it can't be used as originally intended. The second pic has the long hoses from the rear and on top of the fender to the blade, as it should be.

Most MCs had no blade, and were used just with pulled equipment. Some had the toolbar, which was outside mount and usually was attached toward the rear. There were many tools for it at the time which made for a nice setup. The toolbar could be detached and the machine turned around so it was on the front. There was a blade tool for it as well.

Later on the 60 blade came out which is inside mount and just stays on the machine. And the multi-use cylinder winds up used for that as well. Hence the hold-up bar.
