420 blade tilt ideas

Post by td14addict » Fri Aug 28, 2015 8:04 pm

I was wondering if anyone has come up with a way to get some sort of adjustable tilt to the single lift cylinder blade setup. At some point in its life time the non cylinder side lift arm has been cut off and re welded at the wrong angle, which has given it about a 3 inch difference between the left and right corner of the blade.

I was thinking about making an adjustable link to go from the lift arms to the blade frame on one side, which would effectively twist the blade frame to give it somewhat of a tilt feature, which I mostly need to just level out my blade.

Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I made a 6 way for my greenville railcar bull blade a few years ago. I took a couple photos on my "dumb" phone while I built it but I cannot get them downloaded onto my computer. Here is a link to my thread. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

thanks! your thread is actually what brought me to this forum to begin with. I was looking for ideas for the blade on google images and really liked your design. In the long run I would like to build something very similar to yours however in the short term I need something to fix my current misalignment. I have saved all your photos to my computer for future reference!

Maybe posting a photo of your misalignment predicament will help out. I'm not too familiar with a single cylinder blade lift....

I can grab a few photos of the blade tomorrow, I dont have any that actually show the trouble i am having, but these show the setup. there is a bar running between the two "Lift arms" that links them together. It is hard to tell from the pictures but they are no longer synchronized left to right, and its been this way so long that the blade frame itself is actually twisted. Hope this helps to somewhat show my issue.

thanks

I would cut and re-weld what ever is necessary to remove the twist, but there is just not enough iron in a 61 blade to try and make it tilt. The moldboard is supposed to be bolted solid by the angling braces whatever position it is in. And the frame itself can not twist or it will break, it is designed to be as rigid as possible.
