440 ICD Questions

Post by GaCatskinner » Wed Sep 02, 2015 3:11 pm

Howdy y'all. I'm new here and have a few questions about a 440 I acquired. It needs quite a bit of work but I did load it on the truck under its own power. It's sort of a Frankenstein, someone removed the original seat and replaced it with the operator's station from a 350. My first question (of several I'm sure) is what is the hydraulic pressure supposed to be on this machine? Oh and how do I determine the year?

Google "John Deere 440 IC" and select the tractordata website. It'll list the serial numbers by years.

I'm pretty sure the 440 hydraulics are the same as the 420s, that being said it's 1000 psi.

Hi,

Yes, 440 same as 420.

For the serial numbers by year, forget Google. Just go to our own FAQ section. :)

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately mine is missing the serial number tag on the Bell housing. Is that info stamped anywhere else on the tractor?

From a previous discussion somewhere here on the board, there is a number stamped on the motor by the hydraulic pump that can be used to obtain a new serial tag from your local JD dealer. They may be able to tell you the year by doing this. I am missing my tag also, but I know the year of my 420. I never made the time to make it to the dealer for a new tag yet but someday I will.....

Hi,

Well, all I can think of is looking thru the parts catalog and matching items you have against serial number breaks. That is how I figure it out for these old girls when their tags have moved on.
