Spring in shifter mechinism on 420c
Looking at the parts manual for the 420-430 crawlers on page 30-33 there is a spring #21 I believe, part # m3985T. What is this for and where does it go? My shifter handle is loose feeling but it works fine. I was wondering if this spring was used to firm it up somehow. Or do I need a new shifter bearing?
Spring goes in the shift tower to hold the shifter in the slots. If you don't have the tin shift tower, your crawler does not use it.

Hi,
And, if you have the tower, you really don't need it. The one on my 420c has been broken since at least 1970....

Then I would put in the spring, it helps to make sure you have the shifter all the way in the slot and keeps it there.

It does, but it also holds the shifter in the against the little notch in the shift tower when in gear.
