40c drive sprocket

Post by fundytides » Sun Nov 22, 2015 6:00 pm

How do you measure drive sprockets for wear? I thought mine was worn so I started to replace it with another that has deeper teeth. However, it seems that it won't fit because the teeth hit against the roller. Do I have a problem that I'm not awre of? Is it possible that the new (to me) sprocket is off a different model?

Check you axle for slop, usually if the sprocket hits the roller, the bearings are shot. The other thing I have had happen is the clutch housing to sideframe bolts are loose, gone, replaced with the wrong ones, or the holes elongated.

Lavoy,
Checked axle bearings, no slop. Bolts to center frame tight. Tried sprocket again and it did go on, Once in place it does clear the roller by about 1/4". Is that ok? Haven't got the track back on yet as we had some rain and then turned cold so the shoes are frozen to the ground. Supposed to warm up a little tomorrow so probably a little hot water will get me back in business. Thanks.

If everything is solid and in place, you should be fine.
