JD 440 ICD clutch pack

Post by JD440ICD2006 » Wed Sep 06, 2006 10:03 pm

Is it possible to adjust one of the clutch packs? The left clutch is weaker than the right. The left will pull but it just does not seem to have the bite that the right one does.
I have adjusted the levers per the manual and it did not change anything as far as the clutch bite. I do have better brakes as they needed adjusting.
I appears that someone has been in to the left side recently as the bolts are newer on the clutch pressure plate.

The pressure plate springs may be weak, or the clutch discs shot. Either way, no external adjustment that will help.

Lavoy,

Could you not make up something to make me feel better?
So, I assume it will not hurt it to use it lightly, it will just finish off what ever needs to be repalced?

Okay, fine. If you put 40 weight oil in the engine, it will steer better. How's that?

I know I made a big deal out of the oil issue but I believe the results were worth it. We all learned things, especially me, who knew nothing at all to begin with.

I did not reference oil because of any previous discussions, that was just the first thing totally unrelated to steering that I could come up with, sorry if you took it wrong.
I totally agree, I think the oil discussion was a good one, and I too learned something.
