reverser drained of fluid

Post by frozendozer » Sun Mar 27, 2016 10:37 am

I had an employee, who operated my jd440 icd why I was gone and stood the machine on its back drivers and came down so hard, that he broke the front counter weight off. Lucky for me, I had another and was in town to fetch it. After repairs, and the firing of the said employee, I operated the machine and noticed the reverser was slipping to the point it stopped moving the machine in the forward direction. I adjusted the reverser and it appeared to clear up. After about 2 hours or light duty, it did the same thing. I took a closer look, this time with my glasses and noticed that the entire case had been drained of fluid. I suspect employee sabotage as there was no puddle on the snow under the machine.

The reverser seems to operate in the reverse position, however I shut down the machine where it stands and now I am back in town to get hydraulic fluid.

perhaps its a rebuild, or perhaps add the required fluid and adjsutments and it will work.

what you all think

Hi,

Well, the reverser clutch discs are designed to have more friction when oiled, so maybe you will be ok if you quit as soon as they slipped.

Before you put too much fluid in the reverser you may want to check that it is staying in the reverser, as in drain plug in the reverser case? Unwanted ventilation hole in reverser case? etc.
