Trade JD 2010 block for 1010?

Post by bitcoder » Sun Sep 10, 2006 10:47 pm

My son and I are rebuilding a 1010 crawler with busted engine block with a hole in the side where a rod came through.

We ordered and bought what we thought was a used 1010 diesel engine block from a tractor dealer in Eastern Wash, now we find it's actually a 2010 block, and the less than reputable dealer won't make good.

We paid $700 plus shipping from Canada, then had it cleaned, magnafluxed for cracks, and line bored by Larson & King engine rebuilders in Portland OR.

We are interested in swapping for a 1010 block in equally good condition, preferably from the Pacific NW, as shipping these big pieces of iron gets expensive.

Or, we have a lead on a parts 1010 wheel tractor, do the wheel and crawler engine parts interchange?

Or, does anyone have a lead for good 1010 engine parts.

Thank you.

1010 wheel and crawler are the same engine.
Deck sleeve and pistons are a Deere only item.

Thank you Lavoy for the quick answers to my first post to this useful and informative web site. I spent several hours over the weekend reading posts from other 1010 owners.

Guess our best bet will be the 1010 wheel parts tractor, at least we'll know for sure we're buying a 1010 block. Although without pulling and breaking down the engine, we won't know for sure if it's a good block or if it has internal cracking or some other problem that makes it a boat anchor.

How sturdy is the 1010 block, especially around the webbing or whatever it's called where the bottoms of the sleeves of the cylinder liners fit into the block?

I have heard of cracking in the blocks, but not sure that it is due to any weakness, or if from freezing.
