420 split?

Post by Mikey O » Thu May 26, 2016 11:10 pm

I have a a 420 c I bought 15 yrs ago to landscape when I built my house figuring I would sell it when I finished but I never knew about the contagious crawler affliction and low and behold just couldn't part with it, just always have a reason to keep it....long story short I didn't fire it up last 2 yrs and when I spun it over t was slow turning over, main clutch seized and clutch and brake pedal seized together so I thought I'd pull engine to free clutch and found mice got in a missing bellhousing bolt hole and filled entire clutch assembly, bellhousing and reverser tube with seeds, fur, fuzz and corpses of the dead ones. It filled a 5 gal shop vac full it's a mess even starter motor was full. So it's all cleared out, engine on floors down it spins over nicely now but I I'll have to pull clutch and flywheel apart. I have stripped it down gas tank, hydraulics, dash all off , the bolts holding bell housing reverser tube to transmission are out but it will not pull away from the transmission I get about a 1/16 to 1/8 gap top to bottom but it will not pull apart I am only using light force no bars just in case I missed a step. All visible bolts and nuts are off and it will wiggle up and down but not come apart. It's a 420c sn 113724 did I miss a step here

You need to pull the shaft out of the center of the reverser shifter tube about an inch and then it will come apart.

Mouse pee can weld about anything!
If man can break it man can fix it .. it just takes time and money.
