I recently bought a 1959 JD 440 crawler loader. I had to rebuild both steering clutches. Now that I can move it around I noticed that I can't keep the idle up. When I move the lever up for more RPM's the lever slowly moves back down to low idle. How do you keep the lever in place ?
thanks,
Duane

Most likely it needs new friction washers (I think the number is M1860) in the throttle linkage/lever....... Lavoy should have them

He is correct. I had to replace them on mine and it made all the difference. Throttle is almost too stiff now.
Have fun replacing them. What would seem like an easy job was quite involved.
