the ever-faithful 440 has developed a pretty massive oil leak with puzzling symptoms -
- 90% sure it's motor oil due to color & viscosity
- appears at reverser - clutch junction, so I would assume a rear oil seal
- but the front of the flywheel (as viewed from the inspection plate) is completely dry
any ideas what could be causing this?
thanks as always

I was thinking cam plug, but that would get oil all over the back of the flywheel. Is the engine oil level going down?

alas, the level drops with alacrity; I'm pretty sure a rebuild is in the future-
it wil be fun extracting the engine since this machine has a mod 91 loader on it.

Actually not as bad as you think. If you have room, put the loader all the way in the air, and hose clamp a piece of angle iron the correct length to the lift cylinders so it can not fall on you. Be sure and put something on the ram so the angle iron does not scratch it.
