420c will not roll in neutral

Post by Fixurup » Sun Nov 27, 2016 8:30 pm

Hi, I have a 420. I just pulled the motor off to rebuild it. I went to pull the crawler and it rolled about 3 ft and stopped rolling. I then pulled it the other way and it rolled back to where it was sitting previously and stopped rolling again. This crawler has been sitting in the same spot outside for about a year. Does anyone have an idea what it could be locking up the tracks?

Hi,

Rusted pins and bushings in the tracks themselves.

Does it feel like a mechanical stop, like something is broken, or just something binding in the tracks?

It will roll about 3 feet easily then it just stops rolling sounds like something catching. I put new bushings and pins in the tracks a few years ago. So there is no play in the tracks.

Hi,

Which means it is more likely that the ones on the ground froze up from sitting. Less clearance makes for easier rust-up....

I never keep these outside without a roof over them and boards under them.

Hello, I wanted to say thanks for the help. It was the tracks just rusted up. We got them freed up and it now rolls. Thanks again.

Always glad to hear back when a solution was found, even if I was not part of the discussion.

Hi,

It is amazing how just a little rust works like a big wheel chock on these things.....
