What is the minimum allowable thickness of the fiber clutch discs used in the 420's, I know new ones are .151"

steering clutch thickness

My book says min thickness is .145, but I would think they would be useable below that if you could adjust the clutch fingers. Just my 2 cents.

Ya that's not alot of wear allowed, .oo6" that's like 2 sheets of paper.I bought a complete set of steels and fibers off ebay, measured them and they have about .010 - .015" of wear, but when 7 of them added together it is a fair bit.Wonder if you put 2 steel plates together to make up the wear of the fibers?

Adding another steel plate is a bubble gum fix at best. New fiber discs are not that expensive, and for the work involved in pulling the final again when it doesn't work with used junk, not worth the money saved. And yes this is coming from a guy that sells clutch discs, it is also from a guy that has been there, done that, and learned the lesson the hard way.

Yes it does make scence to use new plates with all the work involved to take it apart.Last time the finals were off was about 8-10 yrs ago (axle bearings) the clutches were worked on probably 10 yrs before that so they are ready again for a rebuild.Any way to check the pressure plate spring pressure? This crawler only sees about 10-20hrs a year work now.
