jd440 donor parts
i have a few donor parts that i am considering working on? have a reverser and wonder if i should look into refurbishing and keeping...or simply refurbishing for the experience and then sell? am having a little issue with one on my machine kinda popping out of reverse and have not tried to adjust as yet and wonder if i can get experience on the donor first? tho without levers and such do not figure i can do much. but sure would be easier working on by itself......it was on a loader

Hi,
The only working one can perform on a reverser requires it to be out of the machine. Other than adjusting the two clutches, that is.
And, to get it out requires disassembly from the front. So, if you think you need to work on yours, it makes sense to do the spare first then swap. As long as you do not find that you need unobtainable parts. You might well find that you need both to make one good one....

well got a chance to take side cover off donor reverser....and back to drawing board.....had to look at manual...
when dismantling tractor.....first thing it says...is put reverser in reverse!!!
i.e....cannot get cover and shifter out without it in reverse....then reading.....proves..you cannot do a thing thru that area.....must be completely dismantled and all guts removed to repair......if needed..so that is unknown.
it sure did snap back nicely....i used extended pipe clamp and worked great to get just enough pressure to pop her back to reverse. so that sounds good. So further seems aint much way to adjust these clutches unless back in machine to enable to work reverser to back and forward....hmmmm
i did get my steering fixed...after shearing the locking bolt on the throw out bearing....i sure was leary of over tightening the new bolt and sure cannot see i that hole....but it did get there. so now up and running....happy!!!
uh whiteclipse.....did you get my pm??

All reverser clutch adjustment must be done with clutches in crawler and side cover on.
