Smoke in hydraulic tank and 2 psi oil pressure

Post by jperry3223 » Fri Mar 17, 2017 12:26 pm

I have a 420c with smoke coming out of the hydraulic tank. The hydraulics work fine and have 800 psi on piston lockup. I also have 1 to 2 psi on the new 0 to 30 psi oil pressure gauge. Thanks

Just a shot in the dark. But is your hydraulic oil getting hot and boiling some moisture out of the fluid. Does your fluid look milky.

Surely there is no smoke coming from the engine thru the pump. If thats the case your engine would be full of hydraulic oil.

Yes, white color of fluid, but seems to be cool to the touch.

I would start with draining the hydraulic fluid out of the tank and pull the cylinders and manually drain out the fluids for each cylinder by pulling the cylinder rod back and forth to try and get as much of the milky fluid out of the hydraulic system as possible.

In the process of draining the hydraulic oil and replacing it.

Any thoughts on the low oil pressure? Bad oil pump ? Bypass open in the oil filter housing ? Broken oil pump gear ?

The oil pressure gauge is on the filter housing.

Hi,

Piece of an old gasket fall in and block the passage to the gauge?

I am kind of reaching there. Sounds like you have a serious issue....

Anyone work on the insides of that engine latey? Might have the oil pump timing out of whack. Also, if no work lately, might be a clogged up inlet screen on the oil pump.

Hi Stan. I just removed the oil filter assembly and only a trickle of oil came out while a short running of the motor.

I took out the oil pump it looks ok. The gears have a wee bit of slop and the end cover is smooth, no gouges.
