Hyd track adjustment

Post by Bruser » Thu Aug 24, 2017 3:44 pm

Sorry for the rookie question, but this is my first crawler! I have a 440 with a 831 loader. The tracks on the left side have become slack ( more than the right side). It has Hyd track adjust. My question: is there a special grease gun needed to "pump up" the adjuster.
I don't have the service manual but the operator manual says to use 140 gear oil. I don't thing my current grease gun will do that without making a real mess

Some help from the experts would be appreciated :)

you need a low pressure grease gun, I use corn head grease for both my bottom rollers and the track adjuster.
you most likely still have the button head grease fittings for your adjuster and rollers, they look like little mushrooms....you can get the special fitting to screw onto a low pressure gun and you will be all set.
Lavoy might sell them or deere will have them.
you can use a regular grease gun for your adjuster but using regular pressure gun on bottom roller you can blow out the seal without even knowing it....using the low pressure gun gives you a better feel for amount if lube you have pumped into rollers

Thanks for the reply, I'll give the adjuster a shot with the current gun I have and search out the fittings for the L/P one.

I think you can get the grease gun fitting at NAPA.
