idler Disassembly issues

Post by 420C-Mike » Sun Sep 10, 2017 10:24 am

Disassembling take-up idlers as I plan to replace standard ones with oversized units. First one came apart as expected. Second one the shaft seems to be seized in the bushings.I tried a large gear puller to push out the shaft but it will not move. Suggestions? Do I need to put in in a press?

get 2 cans of PbBlaster penetrant and squirt it on everything, even stuff your not working on, for preservation and future ease.
soak that axle/bushing for a week, then see what happens.

Thanks- actually had already tried that. This project gave me an excuse to buy a 20 ton press. Took most of the available force but eventually it "popped" and I was able to push it out Lots of corrosion leading to siezure. On to thenext part of the project!!
