I'm on the eve of picking up my own John Deere MC. I'll be spending the next couple of weeks cleaning it up and getting current on all PMCS. I've searched the forum but was unable to find any consolidated post regarding updates and corrections to the following manuals.
MC Operator's Manual
M Service Manual
MC Service Manual
Does anyone know of any updates and corrections that I should make to these manuals prior to using them?
Are the fluid recommendations (i.e. weights) still recommended as written?
The radiator fluid recommended appears to be water. I'd like to go with radiator fluid. Is this fine and, if so, what do you recommend?

Re: Updates to MC Operator's and Service Manuals
Hi,
No, none of the lubricants listed were ever updated as they changed. It was figured that the mechanics at the dealerships would do that automatically.
Also, keep in mind that these manuals presume the reader is an experienced JD dealership mechanic in all respects.
If they ever had updated them, they would have just pointed to whatever the JD offering was at the time. TorqueGard, HyGard and CoolGard would be the current ones for engine oil, hyd oil and coolant.

Thank you! I'll check for service bulletins and use discretion when selecting fluids.
Re: Updates to MC Operator's and Service Manuals
Engine is any good multi or straight weight gas engine oil. Trans is GL5 80W-90 if Dino oil, 75W-90 if synthetic. Hyd is just plain straight weight hyd oil, Hygard will work, but you will lose pressure, and they tend to squeal more, plus it is more expensive, so no gain whatsoever. Radiator is any antifreeze you would put in your car, do not use water only, just contributes to rust and scale.

Re: Updates to MC Operator's and Service Manuals
Hi,
Good point. My M does not like HyGard, so I use a generic Hyd oil which is heavier.
My 420, on the other hand, is happy with HyGard. That is good since it has weepy blade seals and so I have to put oil in regularly. My newer machines use HyGard and I have a use for what I drain out in the 420. Might as well since it dribbles out anyway.
