I had to replace the generator on my 440 icd. This replacement has a condenser like object connected to the A post, and appears to be broke.
Why is this there?
Can it be replaced with another, it looks like it's the same as what is seen on old point style spark distributors.
What if I run without it?
Thanks all

Re: Jd 440 icd generator
Hi,
That would be an RF suppressor to get rid of whiny noise in your AM radio. They were add-ons for car generators. You don't need it on a 440. Unless, of course, you have an AM radio on yours.
Actually, you would have a lot more noise from those two short, copper core, spark plug wires than from the generator. I remember sitting at my ham rig trying to hear *anything* other than Dad's 420 sparks. And he was a quarter mile away from the house. A great memory, actually.
Of course, no spark noise from a 440 ICD.
