Introduction

Post by Seth » Thu Oct 26, 2017 6:29 pm

Hello, I am a noob and I want to introduce myself. My name is Seth and I live in North Central Pa, I am 39, married and have a 7 year old son. My family has farmed with jd equipment from the turn of the century to the late 60's. The two tractors my old man always talked about was a jd 70 and a mc crawler the used on the steep stuff. I have wanted a crawler all my life and finally picked up a 52 mc with a #60 dozer blade. It has sat in a garage in used for the last 7 years. I threw in a battery, fresh gas and points and a condenser fired up (roughly) and brought it home. It is in pretty good shape, a couple loose pads, leaking remotes and an idler that seems to be a little crooked. So once I get the carb cleaned, maybe rebuilt I will have alot of questions. Thanks for your time

Welcome to the board. Lots of good people here with a lot of knowledge. My Dad was a JD man through and through. I currently have 2- 450C track loaders and a couple of wheel tractors. Bruce

Hi,

Welcome!

My dad didn't farm as he was a machinist. His brother had two farm equipment dealerships with JD the main item. Dad had his machine shop in the dealership right across from my elementary school. So, I wound up being schooled in things Deere as well.

My JD 420C was sold new to a dairy farmer by my uncle in 1958. He traded it back in, in 1966, with pins and bushings eaten internally by acids from being used to scrape out barns. The farmer got a wheel tractor with a loader, and my dad had 'dibs' and a rail rebulid to do. It then followed him home.

Dad passed in 1995, so I wound up with the old girl and moved her from upstate New York to my place in North Carolina. So, I know the good, the bad, and the ugly of having an old crawler. You will love it - when you are not cursing it! :)
