Blades on mc's

Post by Seth » Fri Oct 27, 2017 5:37 pm

What are your opinions on having blades on mc's? I was told they were not ment to be used as bulldozers, but more of an ag tractor, hence the belt and pto shaft. I have a #60 blade on mine and it's pretty beat up. Is it worth keeping on the tractor.Or will it do more harm than good? I have heard of people busting up final drives when they were pushing with theirs. My drives and frame is in good shape and I want to keep them that way. I want to use the machine for skidding wood and light work and the little blade would be handy, but not if its going to bust up parts.

There is nothing wrong with using the blade as intended: light use, piling logs, pushing loose material. As with all things, there are limits. I would avoid hitting/pushing hard stumps, rocks etc. basically anything that would spin the track and load the undercarraige. Take care, Bruce

In term of weight and potential damage to the crawler, the #60 is by far the best blade to have. Make sure to grease bottom rollers and front idler LIBERALLY with a good sticky grease every 8 hours of use, maybe more often with a blade.
