Mc grease and grease guns

Post by Seth » Mon Oct 30, 2017 5:55 pm

I have been reading all the posts about 3 roller grease.. and I want to get it right. I need a low pressure grease gun that fits the button head fittings, and I want to use a thick grease. Correct? Were can I get the grease gun that I need to use? Thanks

Gun is irrelevant on an MC, no seals to blow out. High volume will help, you are probably looking at 3 tubes to grease bottom rollers and front idlers.

Hi,

I was going to say 5/8", but that is for the later machines with the bellows seals. The earlier ones are larger, but search as I might, I have not seen a size mentioned anywhere. Only that the older ones are larger. So, looking at mine for a make and model will do you no good.

They changed the size because of the seals and the need for a low pressure gun. Both the gun and the adapter came with a new machine back in the day.

They may have been in 1950, they are not today, and have not been as long as I have been doing this. There are different thread sizes, but all the fittings you will have gotten from Deere in the last 25 years would have been 5/8" end.
