Idler bracket crooked

Post by Seth » Sun Nov 05, 2017 12:36 pm

Hi fellas, was screwing around cleaning up the wiring on mc and I discovered the inside idler bracket is sitting on the track frame at an angle. The front is tight and the rear is coming away from the frame, witch is leaving a gap on the the rear of the idler wheel. Do you guys know what caused this, and how do I go about fixing it? Thanks

Broken bracket or axle, you will have to take it apart to find out for sure.

Seth, Wecome to the world of antique crawlers.None of the issues you have discovered on your MC are unfamiliar to us that own even much newer units.Years of abuse and repairs done by the unknowing take their toll.Using a near 70 year old crawler to perform useful work comes at some cost.
All of these machinrs are fun to operate and can perform an amazing amount of work..That is one reason they are so popular on the used market.
Before you put any more money in what you have, I think you should get some one with more experience to look at it.These things can turn into money pits real fast and this money is unrecoverable.JMHO,Luck,JimAnderson

Thanks for your input, it's not in bad shape, I have seen some of the ones you guys have brought back to life. It runs and steers good, tracks are worn but not shot, I think. At least they are tight with some adj left and their are 28 pads per side. But it's well used and there are some minor issues to address. And fluids to change but I pretty sure it's in decent shape. I just want to make it right and reliable then go have fun with it

I'm thinking maybe idler bearing/bushing shot.
