63 blade- hydraulic 6way conversion

Post by 440 iron popper » Sun Dec 03, 2017 2:52 pm

Hi,

I'm looking for modifying my 63 blade into a hydraulic 6 way blade. Has somebody ever done that on the board? I looked at some projects on the show and tell section. Unfortunately most of photobucket hosted pictures disappeared...

It looks like the 64 blade is the hydraulic 6 way version of the 63. I downloaded both manuals to compare and get inspired. That would involve a bit of welding for shure!

Thanks for your input.

Hey I'm new here, but I'm probably going to do the same thing, loader valve at northern tool, 280 bucks, single valve for 100, magisterhydraulics.com for cylinders, that's my plan anyway.

64 is it's own blade, not a hyd version of the 63. Substantial difference, only real commonality might be the lift cylinders, and skid shoes that I can think of.

Hi,

The 63 is essentially the same as my 62 (on a 420c). The design is not meant to run unpinned or unwedged. Conversion to hydraulic for the angle and tilt will require both. I expect that condition would destroy the left hand mount in short order. And, it won't be kind to the tilt track piece, either.

There are important reasons why the 64 is built differently from the 63. If it were me, I would not convert. Well, actually, I hate what I have to go thru on the 62 and looked at doing a conversion....and decided that was a very bad idea....and so did not proceed.

Well, i have been looking at this for a while now. Tilt components are worn out on my 63 blade. Issue would come sooner or later... so why not going a little bit further.

If you compare 63 and 64 models there are a lot of shared parts and similarities. After reviewing parts lists and pictures shared by a member of this board, it is doable but this is a good project. Hydraulic part is the easiest one. Structural part however is more challenging

Here is what would be involved:

Remove boom arms (triangles) and reinstall them backwards to accomodate angling cylinders. Pin bores must be in line.
Fabricate angling frame (24)
Fabricate and install pivot plates on boom (triangles in the middle of the front cross member)
Reinforce boom front member and junctions to side frame as it will now take the load instead of the side arms & pins.
Order or fabricate all pins, bushings and bores.
Adapt 63 blade tilt guides that connect to angling frame. They are in the opposite postion when compared to 64 model.
Add a control valve, cylinders and hoses.

That's the way i see it for now!

Hi,

Ah. That is different than the usual PAT conversion discussion of a 62 or 63 blade, which involves simply adding hyd cyls and pulling out the pins.

Blade tilt guide on a 63 will not tolerate use as a tilt mechanism for any length of time. And that is an expensive and hard to find piece, I would caution against using it like that. I have had more than my fair share of calls for that piece when it breaks in normal useage.
For the work and engineering involved, probably better to look for a 64, and sell your 63.
