hydraulics

Post by shugy368 » Thu Dec 28, 2017 12:36 pm

Hi everybody and happy holidays! I have a new project , am installing a Thumb to my 420-C loader and am looking for advice as to hose assemblies and if the 420 HYD pump will handle such an addition. Any help is much appreciated, IMO, this is the place for just that 8)

Not a pump issue, thumb should take less flow than main lift cylinders, should work fine.

I installed a thumb on my Terramite T7 loader bucket. I installed hydraulic quick disconnect couplings to reduce the flow down to 3-4 gallons per minute which works out perfect. I also installed a electrical diverted valve plumbed into the loader curl cylinder, that way I did not have to purchase a additional valve. I just momentarily energized the diverted valve with a push button and the hydraulic flow goes to the thumb instead of the curl. My hydraulic pressure is around 2500 psi. I purchased all of the hydraulic components from surpluscenter.com

That sounds awesome notmeu, would you have any pics/schematics or detailed instrucs that I could look at or download? also will the diverter switch work on a 6 volt sys.?

This is not the exact one that I used but very similar

There is a tap that shows how it is plumbed into the hydraulics. Being that you have 6volts is a problem. I’m sure there is someone out there that sells the same thing in 6vdc but you will have to do some searching!

Hi,

Points. Power goes from battery to switch to coil to points to ground. Easy enough to follow even if using just a lightbulb to test. I lose spark, first thing I do is get out the points file and clean the contacts.

Do you have a ballast resistor on the coil? They are usually 3 ohms if my memory is accurate
