Hydraulic line 420

Post by Bret4207 » Mon Feb 12, 2018 7:43 am

Anyone know if the longest steel hydraulic line from the pump to the hyd reservoir is still available, or if there's a decent alternative? The PO on mine used a hodgepodge of water pipe and rubber hose after he apparently broke the original. It's sucking air at the pump now. I'm thinking metal conduit might work or maybe soft copper? Not having much luck finding a used example.

I purchased seamless steel tubing of the same size and wall thickness and bend it to fit. It’s out there, I just do not remember where I had purchased it. Maybe McMaster.com

Also if you install a new metal suction line it is a great place to install a spin on oil filter for the hydraulic system!

Hope he got his issue taken care of long before this.

Return line is a better place to put a filter in. Less chance of restricting the pump suction or drawing air, as well as collecting any "trash" before it gets into the tank. Just my opinion.

and on the suction line the filter will cause it to suck air!!!...my jd440ic was set up by po on the suction line and it was recommended to take it off and put it on the return line.....did take it off and no more problem,,suspect that 420 set up similar

Ahh I misspoke. I had to go up in the barn to look where I placed my spin on filter and it wasn’t on the suction side of the pump. It was on the return line to the tank. Whoops!

I took a picture of the filter I installed, it is on the return line going into the hydraulic tank. Image
