2010 brakes

Post by Jackrogers2452 » Tue Feb 27, 2018 7:45 pm

I've had my eyes on a 2010 for several years and was able to buy it recently.
When I got it home, the left brake doesn't seem to do anything even with the lever pulled all the way back. My question is this is it possible to replace brakes without a complete tear down of the final drive? It has hlr and does not seem to be hurting for power. Also what is a source for three point parts for a 2010?
Thanks

first of all you will need to get the manual and follow instructions on how to adjust the brakes. It is pretty straightforward and simple, just follow the instructions. Once you have determined that they are adjusted properly you should be able to tell whether you need replace the brakes. Most important is to determine if the brakes have been contaminated by "OILS" if you see oily residue or oil itself in there, you will probably need to replace both the brakes and the clutch fibres etc....there is an oil seal around the shaft that can leak over time and if leaking will need to be replaced.

I had to do that on my jd440ic...fact is my brake band actually broke in half (rusted and old), i replaced entire brake band (bout 225.00) and clutch fibres and steels along with t/o bearing and sleeve in mine for total of $650, as example of potential cost comparison...no idea on your parts tho. a 440 is only a 2 cyl gas job.

If you need to replace the brakes, it is a bit of a job as all these parts are "heavy". Parts are available thru Lavoy, who is the owner of this site and you can either call him direct or send email or pm message thru the board. If he does not have the parts he will probably advise best sources available.

At this point I have nothing, so any parts would be a start.

Thanks for the information dtoot1. At this point I'm going to have a little more time to work on my 2010. I do have a SM-2037 manual for it and from what I gather, it is the right service manual.
Up until now the only experience I've had with dozers is an old D6-9U that just about wore me slick. I'm really looking forward to working on this little JD . I think it's going to make a fine machine for what I need.

I just bought a 2010 JD Crawler and found the left brake band has snapped off. Does a person have to remove the final drive to replace the brake band or can it be changed by removing the housing under the inspection plate from the top? The manual isn't very helpful.

Manual should show it clearly, do you have a Deere manual?
You can take them out without pulling the final drive, yes.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a manual but it is the old original and doesn't show or explain just a brake change.

Original manual should show it. Mine disappeared so can't check for sure, but that part should not have changed from revision to revision.
