Noise from clutch area in 420

Post by H Barnes » Tue Apr 24, 2018 9:13 am

I started up my 420 for the first time this year and I am hearing a rumbling noise coming from near the clutch. I hear it whether the clutch is depressed or not and when in or out of gear. I checked the clutch free-travel and it is correct. I was thinking it could be the pilot bearing or the throw-out bearing but am stymied since the noise is continuous. I had the starter out to be checked and reinstalled it prior to starting. Nothing else has been changed since last fall.

Hi,

You had the starter out? So, a big hole for a mouse, chipmunk or even a squirrel. Yeah.

This spring, I had a big old black snake living in the belly pan on my 420c. See, there was this odd hissing sound when I checked the oil prior to starting it up. Now, I am used to hearing things on running equipment, but not before it gets started! Danged thing would not leave even after I cranked it up. I didn't go far before it did decide to leave, and go right under the left track. Score: crawler = 1, snake = 0.

it's good that it did not go up your pant leg. The cold side of my shop is tight to all but mice but you never know. I will check it out tonight.
