Hey there hi thre ho there boys and girls! I just wanted to introduce myself and my new "toy" (according to my wife
I bought this waaaaaay up in Northern Maine, dozer, parts dozer, a pickup full of cylinders and sprockets and stuff, and a trailer. The 440 looks showroom new...although it has been repainted The previous owner was meticulous in his maintainence...I'd say it lived it's life as a farm dozer, just pushing around "soft stuff"
I am not a heavy equipment guy...rebuilding Jeeps is my thing, so there's going to be quite a learning curve for me...I'm sure I'll be asking a few bone-head questions.
The pre-previous owner sold off the 3pt hitch and the PTO...I'd like to eventualy replace them.
Here's a shot when we picked it up.

Funny you should mention that...it's already been discussed!Lavoy wrote:... Of course you reallize that now you need a third for parts so that you can put the parts machine back toghether?????????
It does run great. I've got 70 acres of "raw" land that I'm going to build on. We dropped it off yesterday and I played with it a little. This was my first time operating any kind of heavy equip so I spent more time getting used to the controls than actual pushing...it's kind of like patting your head and rubbing your belly...

Kirk,
You will get used to it in no time. Soon, you will be out there pushing and clearing and not even thinking about which lever to pull or which way to move your hydraulic levers for the blade.
When everything is working properly, they are easier than a tractor in that if you are pushing straght ahead, no need to do anything but work the blade, the crawler will go straight until you tell it not to.
I personally feel that the 440 Cs are about the best all around from that era.
