John Deere 440 Dipstick
John Deere 440 Dipstick
I recently bought a John Deere 440 diesel with an 831 loader, my first crawler and my first piece of equipment with a 2 stroke detroit in it. Upon checking the oil level I relised the dipstick only has one hole about halfway up the dipstick and no other markings that I can see. Is this how its supposed to be or am I missing something? I was expecting 2 holes, or 2 lines, something normal like that. I bought an operators manual, it basically just says fill it to the full mark and dont let it go below the add mark. So I take it, if theres not some marks Im missing, the hole is full and the bottom of the stick is add. The oil was about halfway between the hole and the end of the dipstick when I bought it.
