1010C Gear Shift Pattern

Post by ejb17 » Thu Jul 12, 2018 3:38 pm

Picking up a 1010C Saturday that we bought and do not know the gear pattern. I am sure I could figure it out but the tower has a short rod welded on to block the lever from going into the top left hand spot so either there is a problem inside or they did it out of convienence to shift faster from the bottom left position. It is the top of tranny shifter with a reverser and serial #49759.
Thanks Eric

Probably a reverse lockout to prevent you from using a double reverse and trying to work the crawler while going forward. But it could be a hi-gear lockout also.

Hi,

The few 1010s I have been around used the same 5-speed trans pattern as the 420, 430 and 440:

2-1-4
N
R-5-3

Did the 1010 get a different box at some point? Similar to the later 350 pattern, perchance? Which, is a 4-speed:

R-1-3
N
2 4

So, on the 5-speed, the lockout bolt ought to be lower left. But if it is like the later 350 box, that would put the lockout in the upper left.

The factory didn't put in a reverse lockout, but quite often they are added so one can't get into R with the trans and R with the Reverser. Unless doing PTO or winch work when you need the lockout removed so you can back up while leaving the reverser in forward (which is why the factory didn't install them).

Hi,

Ah. That would explain it. I have used a few 1010 wheel tractors but not a crawler. The tractors were row-crop utility and essentially had the same 5-speed trans and finals as a 420w (or 430w or 435 diesel). The 420 and 440 crawlers I have used all had 5-speed trans, although I know some had 4-speed.

Thanks gentlemen. I should figure it is like the 350?
Also, can anyone or does anyone have the right side steering lever #T16964T and the steering lever shaft #T13903T ?

I have new shafts on hand, not sure if I have a lever left.
